The spec frames it as a scheduler/runner and tracker reader, not as a rich web control plane or a general-purpose workflow engine.
The architecture in the spec is surprisingly clean and practical. It includes:

The risk: OpenAI is warning you this is still preview territory
The README literally labels Symphony as a “low-key engineering preview” for testing in trusted environments. The spec also says implementations are expected to document their trust and safety posture explicitly, and it does not mandate one approval, sandbox, or confirmation policy for all deployments.
That is corporate engineer-speak for:
“this is powerful, early, and very capable of causing a mess if you deploy it like an idiot.”
So the professional move is:
- trusted repos first
- tight task scopes
- explicit handoff states
- sandboxing where needed
- logs for everything
